you can't always get what you want...

I chose that song for the post title b/c that song reminsd me of House. It gets played in either the first episode ever or atleast the first season. And so it is fitting because this post is about House. You can stop reading if you don't watch the show, or if you haven't seen last night's episode yet and don't want a spoiler. But even if these apply to you, you can keep reading just to enjoy my rants.

I don't even know where to begin. I don't know how far into detail I want to go. Pretty much though...last night's episode was just shocking/sad/ridiculous/unnecessary/far-reaching/desperate/disappointing/etc. Kutner (Kal Penn) killed himself. I know right. The episode pretty much starts out (besides the initial set up of the episode's sick person) with Kutner not showing up for work so 13 and Foreman go to his apt to see whats up. They find him laying next to his bed with a bullet in his head. So for the rest of the episode the team tries to figure out if there were any warning signs that this may happen. There weren't. Taub meanwhile acts like this doesn't affect him at all and continues to focus on the patient. You pretty much know this is his way of deflecting and dealing with it, but you still can't help but think he's being an ass. Then there's House's whole take on the whole thing where you can kinda tell he's affected by it but continues to deal with patient and constantly tries to figure out why Kutner did it (of course because its a mystery/puzzle and House HAS to figure them out). He at one point tries to say it was a murder disguised as a suicide but thats just not true and he knows it. He goes with 13 and Foreman to visit Kutner's adoptive parents and proceeds to tell them its their fault he did this because of the way they raised them (after he originally blamed the team for not noticing signs). He was pretty obnoxious to them but it's House. He cares more about his answers then peoples feelings. So the episode ends with everyone at the funeral (except House and Taub) but they show Taub finally breaking down and crying. Of course.

So my thought on the whole thing is Kal Penn wanted to leave the show. And they needed a reason to do it. If that was the case, I'm kinda ok with it. I'm still disappointed because he was the most likeable character out him, 13, and Taub. But. If they killed him off just for shock value/try to raise ratings...I hate the House writers/producers. If that was the case, they should have had Taub kill himself. He has more of a reason to. In the past episodes its become clear that he has lost a lot of money due to the economy and doesn't know how to adapt. So then he quits but House lets him stay but makes it obvious that he hates Taub and just needs a reason to fire him. Then theres the whole guilt he feels for cheating on his wife forever ago. His wife who is way too good looking for him by the way. So logically it would have been more believable/acceptable if Taub did it. Plus he's more annoying so they may have kicked up ratings just because people would be glad he was gone. PLUS! There was the whole episode with the patient trying to kill himself and so Taub and Kutner got into a conversation about suicide and Taub pretty much admits to trying once and Kutner says how he could never fathom attempting or even thinking about trying. But a couple weeks/months later he does it? Got it. I feel the only way his mentality on the whole thing could have changed so drastically in such a short period of time is if something devastating happened to him...something so devastating the team would have known about.

Anywho if they did for shock value it should have been Taub. OR if they needed to kill someone off...13 has Huntingtons! It's a terminal disease! Have it kick into high gear and kill her! Both would be more logical then Kutner committing suicide. WTF. I think it was ironic that the name of the episode was "Simple Explanations" because there is NO simple explanation as to why they did this. FAIL.

OK OK OK everything kinda changes once I read this article. I was right in the fact that Kal Penn wanted to leave. TO WORK AT THE WHITE HOUSE. What the hell... Anywho. The article interviews Kal, David Shore and Katie Jacobs. So they give some insight to their plans with this storyline and where it plans on going. Apparently Kutner's dying affects everyone including Chase & Cameron. Which they kinda imply in next week's preview. And the whole purpose of not having reasons or answers is supposed to shake House up. And there apparently will be one more cast change before this season ends. As long as they take it somewhere good...that makes sense. And isn't so obvious as a reason for the person to get out of the show.

Oh and the best part of the patient storyline last night was that one of the people wass played by Meat Loaf. WIN. As with the rest of the season the patient takes a back seat to the dramatic other parts so you're left not knowing exactly what was wrong with the person. And Cameron would never be so ok to talk a man into intentionally killing himself to get his liver. No.

And then this article that confirms House and Cuddy will do it by the end of the season. I'm not too concerned with that plot.

i was gonna link to you that article! its so lame, they said they were setting it up to seem like taub would be the one to kill himself, so people would be more surprised when kutner did it. that's stupid.. so stupid. they should have set up SOMETHING so it wouldn't seem so far off when kutner did off himself. Even the last few episodes.. kutner was figuring all this shit out and being mr. awesome doctor and shit. bad writing!

such a cop out. they could have written his character out in a better way (cause .. hello.. white house..) but instead decided to take advantage of it and start a storyline that makes no sense just so they could have all these developments in characters or some crap.

oh and have you seen this: http://www.fox.com/kutner/

kinda gross! haha.
